Level 2 Award in Activity First Aid.

Aim of Qualification.

The aim of this qualification is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider.

Intended Audience.

This qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid when dealing with an emergency situation whilst undertaking activities, such as sports, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, etc.

Course Content.
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
  • Be able to assess an incident.
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.
  • Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally.
  • Be able to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking.
  • Be able to manage a casualty with external bleeding.
  • Be able to manage a casualty who is in shock.
  • Be able to manage a casualty with a minor injury.
  • Conduct a secondary survey.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head, neck and back injuries.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with suspected chest and abdominal injuries.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with thermal injuries.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with eye injuries.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylactic shock.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold.
  • Course Duration.
    2 Days.
    Requalification Requirements.

    This Award in activity First Aid is only valid for a period of three years, within which time the learner will need to re-take the course and the assessment in order to remain qualified. It is regarded as best practice for those holding first aid qualifications to undertake annual refresher training.
